Naomi Osaka Powers Into Saint-Malo Quarterfinals Saint-Malo--Thursday at the L'Open 35 de Saint Malo 125 level tennis tournament in Saint-Malo, France, the second seeded and wildcard entry Naomi Osaka of Japan rebounded from a 1-4 third set deficit to defeat the unseeded Diane Parry of France 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach Friday's quarterfinals.

After a slow start which saw her lose the opening set in 27 minutes, the 55th ranked Osaka raced to a 5-0 set second set lead.

In Friday's quarterfinals, Osaka is scheduled to take on the 143 ranked Elsa Jacquemot of France not before 4:00am PST USA.

the 116th ranked Parry took the following three games to reach 5-3.

Serving for the set, Osaka struck a doublefault before connecting with several powerful forehands to hold serve and level the match at one set all.

Serving in set three at 0-1, Osaka again doublefaulted before the 22 year old Parry hit several crosscourt forehand winners to break serve and lead 0-2.

In the following game, the Frenchwoman struck several down the line groundstroke winners to hold serve and take a 3-0 lead.

After Parry took a 4-1 lead, Osaka's level of play went higher as the former number one won the last five games of the match behind several backhand down the line winners and aces down the tee.

The 27 year old Osaka twice won the Australian Open as well as twice won the US Open but has not yet advanced past round three on the clay of Roland Garros also known as the French Open.

Saint-Malo is a lower level claycourt warm up tournament for Roland Garros which is to be played in Paris May 25th - June 8th.

Osaka is attempting to regain top form after taking a break from tennis in 2023 to give birth to her daughter.

In Friday's quarterfinals, Osaka is scheduled to take on the 143 ranked Elsa Jacquemot of France not before 4:00am PST USA.

Osaka has never played the 21 year old before.

Jacquemot is best known for winning the Roland Garros junior girls' singles tournament in 2020.
